Climate protection and adaptation

The ongoing climate change places high demands on the creation of resilient economic and production systems. In addition to climate protection measures to mitigate climate change, there is a growing need for measures to adapt to climate change. The expansion of decentralised energy supply and the promotion of climate protection and adaptation to climate change have a direct influence on rural areas.
In rural areas, changes in land use are particularly indispensable. It is important not to look only at the individual farm level, e.g. in agriculture and forestry. Rather, in order to sustainably maintain important ecosystem services, it is increasingly necessary to look at the entire cultural landscape in rural areas with regard to climate, biodiversity and resource protection.
Strategies and action plans are the basis for jointly supported goals and development processes. In the field of agriculture, we are looking at ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from organic soils (e.g. peatland protection) and actively removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (e.g. biochar or agroforestry). We are also working on strengthening climate protection in agricultural funding programmes.
