Innovations for a Climate-Smart Agriculture

The project "Innovations for a Climate-Smart Agriculture " (InnoCSA) aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices that help farms adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project produces three outputs:

  • Learning modules on climate-smart agricultural production. This includes methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as methods to adapt to climate change. Topics such as crop selection, water management and soil health are covered.
  • Case studies that show real-life examples of how farms are successfully implementing climate-smart solutions.
  • Innovation management learning modules that focus on how farmers can identify, adopt and implement new technologies and practices.

The third outcome is characterised by helping to create awareness of innovation and enabling farms to try out new methods and integrate them into their operations. In doing so, it helps to ensure that the information and knowledge compiled in the first two outcomes can be effectively put into practice and applied.

The InnoCSA results will be published on a learning platform and will be available there for interested parties at least until the end of 2027. In this way, farms and other stakeholders can easily access and use the project results.

In addition, workshops will disseminate the results and engage with farms, vocational schools related to agriculture and horticulture and other stakeholders. These events will provide opportunities for interactive learning, knowledge sharing and networking and support the project's goal of equipping farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to adapt to climate change.

The project is being implemented by a consortium of five partners. The Institute for Rural Development Research (IfLS e.V.) is responsible for coordinating the project. Two farmers' associations, ASZ and CIA Umbria, contribute their knowledge of the situation of farmers in the Czech Republic and Italy to the consortium. The consulting company HuL (Germany) provides first-hand experience on transformation processes in farms. OnProject (Spain) supports the project by developing learning content and providing technical support. Through the involvement of different partners, the project benefits from a wide range of perspectives, expertise and experiences that help to ensure that the solutions and recommendations are practical, effective and relevant to farmers' needs.
