In cooperation with the Mittelhessen Climate Protection and Energy Agency (Klimaschutz- und Energieagentur Mittelhessen – KEM) and the department for rural areas (ALR) of the Vogelsberg County, starting in June 2009 the IfLS contributes to the installation and establishment of functioning networks dedicated to the valorisation of the biomass potentials existing in the ‘Mittelhessen Bio-energy Region’.
Spatially, the ‘Mittelhessen Bio-energy Region’ encompasses the LEADER regions of ‘GießenerLand’ and ‘Vogelsberg Volcano’ as well as the City of Gießen. Previously, in 2008 the IfLS had initiated and monitored the region’s participation in the ‘Bio-energy Regions’ competition tendered by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). Based on that, over a three-year period, networks and value added chains are installed in order to realise the region’s development potentials in the field of bio-energy.
The development concept entitled ‘Alliance cluster Mittelhessen Bio-energy Region: Realising sustainable potentials together with partners – Care and maintenance of natural and cultural landscape’, whose elaboration was led by KEM and IfLS, is the basis for implementation measures. Sub-divided into three fields of action, the concept comprises measures dedicated to expanding and supporting a regional value added partnership in the field of bio-energy (see ‘Mittelhessen Bio-energy Region’ development concept).
The funds provided by the BMELV can be used for communication-related measures such as the establishment of network offices, public relations measures, events, as well as complementary studies. Through promoting communication structures, all relevant regional and supra-regional partners are to be included in the processes related. The objective is to install and advance regional value added chains in order to generate a sustainable regional value added.
In cooperation with the KEM and ALR, the IfLS’ core task is the implementation of the regional network management. At this, the focus is on:
- the installation and organisation of suitable networking platforms,
- the management of related events and working groups, as well as
- the provision of consulting and strategic support to the regional value added partners.
