Good practices from Germany, Austria, Denmark, France and Italy – What can Ludwigsburg-Stuttgart and North Hesse learn about sustainable communal catering?

The BÖL project ‘RegioWertGeBen’ highlights innovative approaches to strengthening regional, organic community catering, using the vegetable sector as an example. The overarching aim is to contribute to the strengthening of organic farming and to the supply of organic food to the population in two pilot regions – Ludwigsburg-Stuttgart and North Hesse.

To this end, the scope was extended beyond the pilot regions to compile examples of good practice in bio-regional communal catering at corporate, local authority and regional levels in Germany and Austria, as well as in Denmark, France and Italy. Six short reports illustrate the respective location factors, the value chains from cultivation to communal catering, and the associated communication processes. The reports can be accessed here:

In the next stage, these case studies served as a frame of reference for assessing the current state of sustainable communal catering in the pilot regions and for planning its further development. To this end, a comparative analysis of good practices was used to identify success factors, which then served as criteria for a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) of Ludwigsburg-Stuttgart and North Hesse. The accompanying working report can be accessed here.
Further information on the project can be found here.
