The study aims to analyse and assess possibilities for improved co-ordination and harmonization between national spatial development policies and the structural policy of the EU. In co-ordination with the programming procedures for the EU´s regional and structural policy, the focus is on determining possibilities for using existing national spatial development programmes as a basis for the EU´s structural fund intervention programmes. Consultations in four case study areas in East and West Germany with representatives of federal and regional ministries/administrations as well as of interest groups were carried out to stress the practical orientation of the results.
