Concept 'Education for Sustainable Development' for the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park

Since April 1, 2018, 'Education for Sustainable Development' has been a further statutory task of nature parks in Germany in accordance with § 27 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. Nature parks are to convey the nature park objectives, contents and competences for action with regard to nature conservation and sustainable regional development by means of education for sustainable development (ESD). The 2018 nature park concept of the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park, which was created with the support of the IfLS, already provided for the development of an environmental education concept, which is now being implemented in an expanded form as an ESD concept.

The aim of the ESD concept now is to develop objectives and quality standards for ESD activities and ESD services in the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park with the involvement of qualified partners of the nature park and other relevant regional actors. In addition, the main themes and target groups for the ESD offerings of the nature park are identified - among other things within the framework of a participation process. In concrete terms, the ESD concept of the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park intends to present the regional division of tasks and work between school and non-school educational institutions as well as the nature park and other networks in the field of ESD in a comprehensible and transparent manner and to encourage active participation in the implementation of the ESD concept.
