The IfLS, in collaboration with DLG e.V. and INFO GmbH, is investigating the impact of the “Livestock Farming Restructuring” subsidy program. The program initially focuses on pig farms. The aim of the evaluation is to assess the direct and indirect effects on pig farms, affected economic sectors, and the economy as a whole. The study will also examine whether the subsidy is an appropriate tool for improving animal welfare. Another focus is on how the subsidy program is changing societal acceptance of agricultural animal husbandry. To this end, farms—both those receiving subsidies and those that do not—as well as members of the public are being surveyed.
The background is that a corresponding funding guideline from the BMLEH came into effect on March 1, 2024, and this, together with other measures, is intended to contribute to the restructuring of agricultural animal husbandry in Germany toward greater animal welfare, as agreed in the 2021 coalition agreement.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Home Affairs (BMLEH) pursuant to a resolution of the German Bundestag.
