Team workshop for the creation of the framework concept for the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land

The framework concept which is currently being developed will set the course for the further development of the biosphere region for the next 10 years: What goals are to be achieved? How will these be implemented? All this is to be described in the framework concept - i.e. the future signpost for sustainable development in the biosphere region.

In Germany, recognition as a UNESCO biosphere reserve requires that an area meet 40 recognition and evaluation criteria. A central criterion is the creation of a so-called framework concept. The UNESCO Biosphere Region Berchtesgadener Land is currently undergoing the evaluation process within the framework of the so-called periodic review, the aim of which is to present the activities and projects of the past 10 years in the biosphere region. After this 'look back', now is the ideal time to also take a look into the future.

There are already many activities and ideas for the future in the biosphere region. In order to bundle these, to refine them and to bring them into a suitable (and above all also publicly effective) form, a three-day team workshop was held with the employees of the administrative office of the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land as part of the compilation process. In addition to general visions for the future and wishes for the design of the 'administrative office of the future', the central contents as well as guiding visions and goals for the entire biosphere region were collected and discussed in the five envisaged fields of action (nature and landscape, sustainable living and management, awareness raising, research and monitoring as well as cooperation and networks). In order to involve the relevant regional stakeholders in the development of the goals, a further participation process is planned for spring 2022. Initial development directions were already collected in the course of the evaluation workshop in May 2021.

The IfLS supports the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land together with the marketing office Spreadwings in the preparation of the framework concept.
