Following an analysis of the current situation and data collection on locally grown vegetables in institutional catering, the second year of the RegioWertGeBen project will focus increasingly on practical implementation – according to the outcome of the third project meeting in Stuttgart. Over two days, the project partners from JLU Giessen, the Stuttgart Organic Model Region, the Centre for Organic Agriculture and the IfLS reviewed the results to date and planned the next steps.
Staff from the Chair of Communication and Consultancy in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences at JLU Giessen are currently working on an analysis of networking needs and the framing of organic and regional vegetables in the pilot regions. At the same time, the IfLS and staff from the Chair of Business Management in Food Science and Agribusiness at JLU Giessen are developing solutions for increasing the use of organic and regional vegetables in communal catering, building on the status quo analysis of the pilot regions. These solutions are to be discussed with partners from the field in a series of practical events in 2026 and, where possible, put into practice.
The RegioWertGeBen project runs from 2024 to 2027 and aims to develop innovative and practical approaches to strengthening regional, organic communal catering, using the vegetable sector as an example. The project covers two pilot regions – Ludwigsburg-Stuttgart and North Hesse; in which organic farming is to be supported and a contribution made to supplying the population with organic food.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs. The project is managed by the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food as part of the Federal Organic Farming Programme.
