TopRegioKMU – Role and benefit of medium-sized enterprises in sustainable regional value added chains

The TopRegioKMU R&D measure’s objective is to analyse the ‘role and benefit of medium-sized enterprises in sustainable regional value added chains’. SMEs’ role in the establishment of regional value added (VA) chains, their motivation for adopting regional and sustainable marketing strategies, the personnel and material resources necessary as well as the benefit of SMEs are to be identified, analysed and evaluated. Marketing measures are to be assessed referring to the criteria of sustainability marketing, and an instrument for the professional management of regional VA chains is to be developed. The method is based on the development and testing of a complex model of regional VA chains’ factors of success. Supported by the Agricultural Marketing Corporations of the Federal States of Hesse and Baden-Wuerttemberg, the Ministries for Environment of the Federal States of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria as well as the Allgäu-based Feneberg trade enterprise, SMEs and VA chains in six model regions located in the three federal states named are examined.
