In the Mosel-Hunsrück-Nahe region, the nature conservation project "Ribbons of Life in Hunsrück" is planned. The project is supported by the districts of Birkenfeld, Bernkastel-Wittlich and Trier-Saarburg together with the Rhineland-Palatinate Nature and Environment Foundation. The project is financially supported by the Ministry of the Environment of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation.
The aim of the project is to preserve and develop the cultural landscape of the Moselle, Hunsrück and Nahe rivers together with practitioners in agriculture and forestry by strengthening synergy effects between nature conservation and local concerns. The project stands for the idea of networking and bringing together biotopes, projects and people. The starting point is the habitats that have become rare, such as coppice forests and species-rich meadows, which are to be preserved, upgraded and connected.
Between 2020 and 2022, BGHplan will draw up a so-called care and development plan (PEPL) in which nature conservation models, goals and measures will be developed. An integral part of the PEPL is a "socio-economic analysis" carried out by IfLS. It serves to take into account the interests of land users and regional actors in the project. The aim is to develop use-oriented approaches for the conservation of the cultural landscape and economically viable concepts together with land users and local interest groups.
