Spatial perspectives on the enlargement of the European Union

In accordance with the development of a European Spatial Development Policy the study aims at analysing the spatial consequences of and perspectives for the eastern enlargement of the EU. The focus is on the countries participating in accession negotiations (the 6+5). Accession perspectives and consequences for the long-term development of the EU are discussed. Potential for co-operation with other non-member states to achieve greater spatial cohesion, the territorial impact of present Community policies and the need for a horizontal approach to territorial integration and the question of spatially oriented co-operation programmes (e.g. INTERREG II A and C) are related issues to be covered.
