The E+E project “Green Infrastructure in Rural Regions” aims to translate the guidelines of the EU and the Federal Green Infrastructure Concept into concrete measures at the regional level and to implement them. The focus is on the district of Lippe. Between late 2022 and 2027, measures to promote green infrastructure are to be developed and implemented in designated priority areas.
A key feature of the project in the Lippe district is the planning and implementation of appropriate measures that integrate habitat connectivity, recreation, and the cultural landscape. To provide ongoing support to the project team at the Lippe District Office and the Lippe Biological Station, IfLS Beratung und Projekte GmbH and the Institute for Rural Structural Research (Institut für ländliche Strukturforschung e.V.) were commissioned in collaboration with insitu worldheritage consulting. The tasks of the commissioned partners include providing scientific advice to the area managers, researching cultural-historical and archaeological information, and conducting an inventory and GIS-based mapping of cultural landscape elements in the priority areas. In addition, concrete measures to promote recreation, environmental education, and the development of the historic cultural landscape are being developed to the point of implementation readiness, and the project is being strategically supported.
In addition to conceptualizing the content, these measures also include the creation of informational materials for environmental education, such as information boards and flyers, as well as collaboration on specifications for the planned implementation measures.
The project is being scientifically supported by the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (THOWL), Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, and the LWL Department of Monument Preservation, Landscape, and Building Culture in Westphalia (LWL-DLBW).
