From July 2024 to December 2024, the project “Globally Sustainable Municipality Hesse” will support nine Hessian municipalities in taking stock of their sustainable activities in the context of global responsibility. The IfLS Consulting and Projects GmbH, together with the Institute for Rural Development Research e.V., has been commissioned by the Service Agency Communities in One World of Engagement Global, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, to implement and support this project.
Objectives and Background
The aim of the project is to assist the municipalities in identifying and promoting their sustainability activities. The focus is on the implementation of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
Participating Municipalities
The nine participating municipalities represent a variety of urban and rural regions, including large cities, counties, and smaller municipalities:
- State capital Wiesbaden
- City of Breuberg
- City of Griesheim
- Lahn-Dill district
- Town of Eschenburg
- Town of Lohfelden
- City of Nidderau
- City of Oestrich-Winkel
- City of Pfungstadt
Methodology and Process
In addition to collecting qualitative data and quantitative indicators, the project includes two central workshops per municipality, which will be conducted by the end of 2024. These workshops are designed to inspire municipalities about the topic of sustainability and highlight their own activities. Initial recommendations and areas of action will also be jointly developed. This stocktaking serves as a basis for the further development and implementation of tailored sustainability activities in the context of global responsibility.
