The second networking event organised by the Faktor K research initiative of the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) in Wittenberg focused on questions regarding the target groups, timing and purposes of knowledge transfer from ongoing research projects on cultural work and cultural education in rural regions.
The MetaKLuB project from the University of Potsdam reported on four years of research into cultural education in rural regions. As part of MetaKLuB, 21 individual and collaborative projects on cultural education were evaluated in terms of their key areas and gaps in research on cultural education in rural regions, and overarching recommendations for action were derived. Of particular interest to the projects in the Faktor K line are the identified areas of tension within culture – for example, between tradition and innovation – in which both cultural practitioners and researchers operate, and which are highly relevant, for instance, when formulating recommendations for action.
Small groups then discussed their methodological challenges as well as initial interim results, recommendations for action and their target groups. The Faktor K projects will run until the end of 2025. An overview of the projects, as well as practice partners and study regions, can be found here.
The Institute for Rural Structural Research, together with its partner, the Department of Empirical Cultural Studies/Cultural Anthropology at the University of Bonn, is part of the Faktor K project family with the AMuRaKK project.
In the project ‘Actor Networks and Multifunctional Spaces for Art, Culture and Creative Work in Rural Regions’, we are investigating how constellations of actors from the cultural sector, public administration and civil society design and utilise multifunctional spaces (e.g. repurposed vacant properties or multifunctional buildings) in rural areas, and how these locations facilitate exchange and cultural participation among different groups of actors.
The projects are funded by the BULEplus programme of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
