Presentation of the 'Current and alternative utilisation of non-marketable eggs' project at the Bonn Nutrition Days

This year's Bonn Nutrition Days, organized by the Federal Center for Nutrition (BfZE), took place under the motto 'Eating becomes different - nutrition and the planetary limits'. Instead of face-to-face events, projects were presented digitally via pageflow. This was also the case with the project 'Organic eggs from small production units - Current and alternative utilisation of non-marketable eggs', which is being carried out jointly by the Institute for Rural Development Research (IfLS), Bioland Consulting GmbH and Demeter e.V.

The project is concerned with the valorisation of non-marketable goods in small structured laying hen stocks (up to 3,000 laying hens). In concrete terms, the project examines the questions of how dirty, cracked and S eggs (eggs of the lowest weight class) from these small production units can be recycled at all and what recycling strategies are available.

A multimedia insight into our project is provided by the pageflow 'The imperfect egg', which you can access online here (in German).

The project is part of the Federal Program Organic Farming and Other Forms of Sustainable Agriculture (BÖLN), which is funded by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE).
