Online stakeholder workshop for the review of the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land

Every ten years, UNESCO reviews whether the designated biosphere reserves are still fulfilling their tasks. The biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land was recognised as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1990, successfully passed the first periodic review in 2012 and will be going through the second evaluation process in 2021/2022. Both the work and development of the administrative body as well as the development in the region as a collective will be evaluated. The IfLS was assigned to prepare the "Periodic Review Report".

Since the report presents the activities in the whole region, it is of great importance that it is also supported by the region. For this purpose, an online stakeholder workshop was held with regional stakeholders on 10 May 2021. The aim of the workshop was to reflect on and discuss the activities, findings and developments of the last ten years. First of all various short inputs on the background of the evaluation, an overview of the region and results of the online survey with the municipalities of the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land by the administrative office of the biosphere region and the IfLS, was given. Second the participants were able to share their expertise in five topic-related working groups on the questions of which activities and developments as well as challenges were relevant in the last ten years and what can be taken away for the future.
