New Master Plan for the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb - Start of the Participation Process


After an initial survey, the development of the master plan for the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb began with an ideas workshop.

Heads were smoking on Wednesday, 9 June. 2021, when partners and interested parties sat down to develop ideas, roles and initial project proposals for future work.

The master plan is intended to define goals, strategies and key projects in the fields of action for the next five years and to provide a framework for the UNESCO Geopark in its work. The fields of action to be worked on include:

  1.     Geotope protection and management
  2.     Geotourism
  3.     Environmental education
  4.     Communication and public relations
  5.     Sustainable regional development
  6.     International networking
  7.     Model region for sustainable development
  8.     Accompanying scientific research
  9.     Protection and further development of the natural and cultural heritage
  10.     Organisation & Management

The development of the master plan is taking place in a participatory process with regional stakeholders and in a close exchange between the staff of the UNESCO Geopark and the IfLS.
