Integrate climate action into the CAP

Agriculture must also contribute to achieving the climate protection goals to which Germany has committed itself. The CAP is of great importance for the structure of agriculture in the European Union and thus also for climate protection in connection with this sector.

An IfLS project, financed by 'Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank', dealt with the question of how CAP measures in the current funding period address climate protection in order to derive proposals for future funding measures on this basis.

The current short study primarily focuses on the possibilities offered by voluntary measures that can be offered within the framework of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) (2nd pillar of the CAP). The study focuses on climate protection measures on agricultural land. These are related in particular to the storage of organic carbon in the soil and the use of nitrogenous fertilisers.
