Information by the Monitoring Committee on interim results of the evaluation of the Rhineland-Palatinate rural development programme

On 20 June, the Monitoring Committee for the EULLE Rural Development Programme (EPLR EULLE) met in Worms for its annual meeting. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate has been implementing its rural policy with the EPLR EULLE since 2014.

As in previous years, Jörg Schramek (IfLS), representing the evaluation team, reported to the committee on the status of the accompanying evaluation of the EPLR EULLE and on interim results. He emphasised that the evaluation team finds it important to communicate interim results as soon as they are available. Against the background that the final evaluation on the implementation and effectiveness of the development programme, according to the requirements of the EU Commission, will not take place until 2026.

Mr Schramek reported on the interim evaluation of flood protection on the Upper Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate [link in German]. For this purpose, Dr Rolf Bergs (partner in the evaluation team) had analysed how expected flood damages change due to modified land use and associated changes in value.

He also presented the results of a short study by Mr Oliver Müller (IfLS) on the status of the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) in Rhineland-Palatinate [link in German]. With the help of the study, the system is to be further optimised in the coming years.

The results presented were intensively discussed by the participants. They also welcomed the fact that interim results are continuously communicated.
