Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a key component in empowering people of all ages to make informed decisions for a future worth living. ESD not only imparts knowledge about ecological, social and economic interrelationships, but also fosters skills such as critical thinking, a sense of responsibility and the ability to take action. The aim is to encourage learners to actively champion sustainable development – both locally and globally. Whether in schools, out-of-school learning environments or in everyday life.
The Steinhuder Meer Nature Park is dedicated to this cause. On 16 April 2026, a diverse group of regional stakeholders met there to jointly set the course for a forward-looking ESD concept. The nature park’s aim is to align its own educational programmes more closely with the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), to sharpen its focus and to forge new partnerships.
