On 10 September 2025, representatives from the agricultural sector, local authorities and the municipal and state forestry districts within the project area gathered for the first meeting of the Wildlife Management Working Group for the Wispertaunus large-scale nature conservation project.
The first meeting of the working group was used by the Frankfurt Zoological Society (ZGF), as the project sponsor, to present the project to those present, and by representatives of the commissioned ARGE Wispertaunus to present the initial findings from mapping surveys carried out to date. In addition, the approach and content of the wildlife management inventory to be developed within the project area were presented and discussed. During the discussion, it became clear that there is a wide range of differing interests regarding wildlife management. In the coming period, relevant research and expert discussions will be carried out on this topic.
The large-scale nature conservation project aims to consolidate the natural forest areas within the project area by incorporating further forest areas of high conservation value. The planning and facilitation phase is currently underway, during which a maintenance and development plan (PEPL) is to be drawn up by the end of 2026.
The IfLS has been commissioned to facilitate the Project Accompanying Working Group (PAG) as well as accompanying working groups, such as those on wildlife management, forest conservation or visitor management. In addition, the IfLS is conducting a conflict analysis as part of the socio-economic analysis.
