Tracking down possible uses of non-marketable eggs

At the beginning of the year the IfLS, in cooperation with Bioland and demeter, started the research project "Organic eggs from small production units - current and alternative utilisation of non-marketable eggs". The aim of the project is to determine suitable utilisation strategies for the sorted out goods (dirty / cracked eggs / eggs of weight class S). An online survey will be carried out to determine the corresponding quantities and the previous recycling routes on laying hen farms. With the help of selected criteria, the project team will compile a summary of promising recycling strategies as a source of information for the various players in the laying hen sector.

The project is part of the Federal Programme Organic Farming and Other Forms of Sustainable Agriculture, which is funded by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE). The project duration ends on 31 December 2020.

To participate in the survey, organic and conventional farms with free-range husbandry are being sought whose stock has a maximum of 3,000 laying hen places. The online questionnaire will be available from 09.04.2020 under this link. Alternatively, a fillable PDF and a paper version are also available.
