Following the successful Smart Village status quo survey in Waldsolms as part of the RURALED project, the next step towards the community’s smart future has now taken place. A workshop brought together residents and local stakeholders to jointly develop goals and concrete project ideas.
After discussing the survey results, participants worked on the themes of ‘village life’ and ‘services and work’. Lively discussions took place at both stations, and numerous ideas for a sustainable Waldsolms were gathered.
At the ‘village life’ table, the focus was on community, volunteering and social cohesion. Among other things, participants expressed a desire for more networking opportunities that prioritise community spirit, as well as intergenerational and inclusive initiatives in sport and culture. Creative approaches to strengthening volunteering were also discussed – such as through awards (e.g. “Village Caretaker of the Month”) and rights to participate.
The “Supply and Work” discussion table focused on key future issues relating to public services and the regional economy. Topics discussed included the supply of regional food, good healthcare, neighbourhood support, the local energy supply and the strengthening of the local economy.
The workshop clearly demonstrated the high level of commitment and diversity of ideas in Waldsolms. The results will now be incorporated into the further development of a Smart Village action plan for Waldsolms. The aim is to draw up an action plan with specific projects based on the ideas generated and to implement it together with the local community.
