Romrods citizens shape their city

On Tuesday, 22 September 2020, the final presentation of the Integrated Rural Development Concept with spatial and thematic focus ('SILEK'), took place in the town hall Romrod. Mayor Dr. Birgit Richtberg and the Institute for Rural Development Research (IfLS), which accompanied the development and participation process of SILEK, had invited to the final event. A public event with all participants of the process as well as the citizens of Romrod was planned, but had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main point of the program was the presentation of the projects to be implemented in the outer area of the city of Romrod. Dr. Ulrich Gehrlein (IfLS) presented in detail one of the projects developed by the citizens in each of the five districts of Romrod, Zell, Strebendorf and Ober- and Nieder-Breidenbach as well as two supra-local projects.

The project ideas of the citizens for a more attractive design of the outer area of Romrod, which were independently developed during the extensive participation process, are very diverse. For example, they designed and mapped out concepts for circular hiking trails, retention areas, water edge strips or adventure sites in the fields of action 'Maintenance and creation of networking elements and promotion of biodiversity', 'Watercourse development and flood protection', 'Multifunctional network of paths' and 'Local places of encounter and recreation'.
