Regional actors show great interest in the Chance.natur project "New pastoral paths in the Palatinate Forest"

Various actors from the fields of nature conservation, agriculture and forestry accepted the invitation of the Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen Biosphere Reserve to the House of Sustainability in Johanniskreuz on 6 March 2019. The purpose of the meeting was to establish the Project Supporting Working Group (PAG) and to inform about the objectives of the project and the planned course of events for the next few years. The chairman of the regional association Pfalz, Mr. Theo Wieder, acknwowledged in his welcoming speech that so many had come despite it being Ash Wednesday. PAG will accompany the Chance.natur project in an advisory capacity over the next few years.

The aim of the project is to keep the species-rich grassland sites of the Pfälzerwald low mountain range region open by using them. The migration of sheep is of great importance, as a living biotope network has developed along the drift paths.

According to those present, the project is supported in the region because, in addition to nature conservation, it is also beneficial for tourism. On the part of agriculture the particular challenge that the extensive use of grassland must also be profitable for farmers was addressed.

This is where the socio-economic analysis entrusted to the IfLS comes in. Jörg Schramek (IfLS) presented the planned procedure at the event. The tasks of the IfLS in the next two years will include the recording and analysis of the current land management in the project area and emerging developments. In close coordination with the regional actors, solutions are to be developed that serve the objectives of the Chance.natur project, but also offer perspectives for the farmers.
