New management plan for the Bergstrasse Odenwald Geo-Nature Park

The UNESCO-Global Geo-Naturpark Bergstraße Odenwald Geo-Nature Park, with the support of the IfLS, is relaunching its Geo-Nature Park Management Plan. It is one of six German UNESCO Global Geoparks and the first which, after having been recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015, will relaunch its management plan. In addition to the traditional fields of action such as "nature conservation and landscape management", "sustainable tourism" and "environmental education", "sustainable regional development", the UNESCO Geopark focuses on specific topics such as "geology and geotope management", "international cooperation" and "the geopark's contributions to the implementation of the UN's sustainability goals (Sustainable Development Goals)".

The first discussions on the new orientation of the Geo-Nature Park's work took place during the kick-off event on 13.12.2018, to which all volunteers of the Geo-Nature Park were invited.

In the coming participation steps and formats, the ideas of the members and partners of the Geo-Nature Park will take centre stage.

The strategy development is based on an analysis, which will be completed at the end of the year. Further work will be carried out in the first half of the year, so that a geo-nature park plan can be submitted to the general meeting for approval in autumn 2019.
