Insect protection in nature parks and biosphere reserves. The IfLS organized the first conference (of two) on the island of Vilm on behalf of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation

From May 23rd to 25th 2022, around 40 participants came together at the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the island of Vilm to take part in the first conference on insect conservation measures and the potential behind them in large protected areas. The large protected areas (GSG) cover more than 30% of the federal territory. Here in particular, insect protection measures could lead to measurable effects in the area.

High-level presentations by experts from the fields of insect conservation development, monitoring, forestry, agriculture, biotope improvement or education supported the conference with relevant lectures and represented a good range of possible topics and areas of action. Discussions and evening get-togethers brought participants into exchange.

The entertainment included a guided tour of the Nature Conservation Academy.

A second meeting is to follow in southern Germany in spring 2023.

All results will finally be published in a script by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conversation.
