Final spurt in the Palatinate Forest - the model region for a sustainable Rhineland-Palatinate

On 7 October, the last steering group meeting of the project "Pfälzerwald - Modellregion für ein nachhaltiges Rheinland-Pfalz" took place, at which the participants from the model municipalities exchanged views with representatives of the Service Agency of the Communities of One World, the Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy and Mobility of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Ministry of the Interior and Sport as well as the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve.

The eight model municipalities in the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve are in the process of finalising their sustainability strategies for implementing the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The exchange showed that on the one hand, the model communities have developed very individual approaches to contribute to the SDGs. At the same time, it became clear that all model communities have developed approaches to the central challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and global responsibility in order to become more sustainable.
These will be presented on 30 November 2021 as part of the virtual final event of the project "Palatinate Forest: SDG Model Region for a Sustainable Rhineland-Palatinate". In addition, a discussion on the opportunities and limitations of municipalities as drivers of sustainable development for the implementation of the SDGs is planned. Registration is requested.

On behalf of the biosphere reserve Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen, the IfLS accompanies the eight model municipalities in the development of their municipal sustainability strategies and moderated the steering group meeting.
