Experts discuss the goals of the regiosöl approaches

Involving regional actors and experts in the development of the regiosöl approaches for assessing, communicating and rewarding is a central approach of the regiosöl project. On 25.11.2020 the project partners Institute for Rural Development Research (IfLS), Centre for Organic Agriculture (ZÖL) and Regionalwert AG Rheinland invited to a virtual discussion on the workshop topic: 'How can regional social-ecological services (SÖL) of organic agriculture be better assessed and valued?' 17 experts from science and research, development and operation of collection approaches of SÖL, agriculture as well as administration and politics participated.

The participants made clear that, for example, the workload for farms should be minimized. This is where regiosöl wants to start with a regional data collection. In addition, a common communication of the SÖL, i.e. not only by companies and product labels, e.g. on a regional level, is desirable.

Following three contributions on the collection and communication of SÖL, the experts discussed remuneration approaches for the regional level and regional action approaches. In the course of the project, regional actors will be involved in the further development and implementation of the approaches.

The regiosöl project is funded by the Federal Program Organic Agriculture and Other Forms of Sustainable Agriculture (BÖLN) with funds from the BMEL.
