Baden-Württemberg's large protected areas want to intensify their cooperation

On October 11th and 12th, representatives of the large protected areas of Baden-Württemberg met to network and exchange information. The regular meeting was organised by the Landesanstalt für Umwelt Baden-Württemberg (LUBW). The IfLS was invited to discuss the achievements and impacts of the different types of areas and to develop approaches for cooperation with those present.

The results are incorporated into the concept for the large protected areas in Baden-Württemberg, which the IfLS is currently developing on behalf of the LUBW. The aim of the concept is to strengthen the 11 areas, including one national park and one PLENUM area each, two biosphere areas and seven nature parks, in their main areas of action. The concept considers the strategic fields of biodiversity, regional development as well as communication and knowledge. In addition to public relations and marketing, the latter includes environmental education and education for sustainable development as well as research and monitoring. In addition, by expanding cooperation, awareness of the individual areas is to be increased, their importance communicated and further synergy potentials realised.

The concept for the large protected areas is part of the Baden-Württemberg Nature Conservation Strategy 2020 (in German) and is scheduled for completion in December 2019.
