On 2 July 2025, the joint kick-off event for the second round of the “Global Sustainable Municipality Hesse” (GNK Hessen) project took place. In attendance were representatives of the participating municipalities, the project team from the Service Agency for Municipalities in One World (SKEW) at Engagement Global, the commissioned consultancy firms IfLS Beratung und Projekte GmbH and team ewen, as well as the Sustainability Strategy Office of Hesse and the Hessian Court of Auditors.
Following a welcome and an introduction to the project’s objectives and methodology, initial questions regarding the process, the allocation of roles and the next steps were addressed. The focus is on developing municipal sustainability strategies based on the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Another item on the agenda was the presentation of the Hesse Sustainability Strategy Office and the Hessian Court of Auditors, which oversees the ‘Produktbuch Plus’ tool.
The meeting not only provided important information but also offered an opportunity for initial municipal dialogue: participants were able to network, discuss questions regarding processes and expectations, and prepare for the upcoming workshops on vision development, goal setting and action planning.
With the launch of the project, the foundations have been laid – now the joint work on municipal strategies for sustainable development begins.
