Activated carbons from residual biomasses raise the interest of participants at the Urban-Rural-Plus Status Conference 2022

The CoAct project presented itself on 19 and 20 September at the status conference of the BMBF funding measure Stadt-Land-Plus in Leipzig in the context of a pitch and a poster presentation. Interested enquiries related on the one hand to the residual biomasses used, from which the project wants to produce activated carbons for the 4th clarification stage of sewage treatment plants in order to replace fossil activated carbons. At the same time, the question arose as to the economic efficiency of the process. The design of a plant that meets the requirements of sewage treatment plant operation and is economical at the same time is currently the subject of the project work, in addition to the preparation of a test of CoAct activated carbons in the continuous operation of a sewage treatment plant.

In addition, the importance of certain actors for the continuation of urban-rural-plus projects was discussed with the participants at the conference and exchanged between the projects. The CoAct project is well positioned here and has already integrated a continuation partner into the project work in the form of the Zweckverband Abwasserreinigung Kressbronn-Langenargen. This ensures that the premises for the conception of the CoAct plant and the evaluation of the process are carried out in a practice-oriented manner within the framework of the project work. In addition, further application cases such as the construction and operation of a CoAct plant at a biogas plant, at a biomass recycling yard and at a building yard were and are being discussed and evaluated by the project. The interim status of the project on the research and development phase can be read in a short report [in German] by the Lake Constance Foundation.
